The Majority Leader in Parliament and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, has expressed surprise at Adwoa Safo’s decision to return to Parliament following her ouster as Gender Minister.

Sarah Adwoa Safo, a Dome-Kwabenya MP, wrote to the President on Tuesday, August 16 in response to her expulsion as Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection.

In the letter, the representative noted that her dismissal will allow her to focus on her legislative obligations to serve 175,000 Dome-Kwanenya constituency while also assisting the “NPP break the 8.”

“In recognition of my responsibilities to the 75,000 constituents who elected me, this development is timely and will allow me more time to focus on my Parliamentary responsibilities and Constituency engagements, as well as consolidate the gains we have made as a government at the Constituency level in our quest to break the eight,” Adwoa Safo said.

In response, the Suame MP, who has consistently advocated for her seat to be declared empty, claimed that he does not understand why Adwoa Safo is returning to Parliament when the same reason did not bring her back when the issue of her extended absence became too much for her.

On Wednesday, August 17, he declared over the phone to Accra-based Okay FM’s “Adi Akye Abia” morning show, “Adwoa Sarfo has spoken.” The beginning of this is that she stated that her current condition will allow her to do her parliamentary obligations to the best of her ability.”

“She abandoned her post and performed no work at all,” he continues. So, if you say you’re suddenly coming to work as an MP, why haven’t you been coming all along, despite our repeated attempts to reach you? This is what I’m not sure of.”

Its certainly her work and she has every eight to resume it anytime she feels like.
