The member of Parliament for Suame constituency, Honorable Osei Kyei Mensah Bonus, who doubles as the minister of Parliamentary affairs made a firm suggestion in parliament on Wednesday following a directive by the speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.
Alban Bagbin issued a directive to five committees on Tuesday that they should come together and give him a report on various crisis at various senior high schools in relation to food shortages. He added that the committees should report to him at the end of October.
Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu suggested in today’s parliamentary sitting the time for the committees to report to the speaker or the house should be the first week in which parliament resumes and not October ending as suggested by the speaker.
After making this statement, the speaker of Parliament revealed to him, that he is completely out of order. The reason is that Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu made this submission at the time for correction of votes and proceedings.
MPs in parliament had a smile on their faces when the speaker was addressing the majority leader on this issue. The Speaker added that the time for reporting is in October ending because, the committees already have a lot of tasks at hand and he is giving them more time to finish this particular issue too.
