WULENSI: Two Fulani Thiefs Caught With Slaughtered Fowls From A Poultry Farm -See Photos
Two Fulani men identified as Issah Karim and Osumanu Baduli were on Saturday January 28,2023 apprehended around the hours of 9-10pm when they went to a poultry farm to steal the fowls belonging to Mr. Magawu Binab, a resident of Dalaanyili.
Binab Magawu who had a poultry farm at the village heard the loud crows and waillings from the fowls in the farm, he traced up to find out that all the fowls were nowhere to be found, he returned to the village to inform them about his stolen fowls, the residents went into the bush in search for the culprits and lo and behold, two Fulani headsmen keeping animals for the people of Bandajua were found with the folws with some of them already slaughtered. The fowls were being carried in a mini sack. They were apprehended and sent to the owners of the cattle they keep at Bandajua.
The culprits upon interrogations by the community members agreed to have stolen and slaughtering the animals after they discovered the fowls in a previous day when they went for cattle ranching. They wanted to cook and eat the meat.
The culprits were handed to the cattle owners for the case to be handled locally, since they don’t trust the way previous cases of that nature were handled by the Police.
When the poultry owner was asked to report the case to the police for the suspects to be arrested, he was objected to those directives.
According to him, reporting the matter to the police will make him incur further cost in the process and the cattle owners may also end up paying to grant bail to the suspected thieves once they were put in a police charge office. He also made references to a similar issue he encountered where the owner of the fowls once apprehended a thief last two years and sent the case to the police at Wulensi but the suspect was freed with the owner incurring costs in the matter.
He however prefers the issue to be handled locally, where they can pay him damages for the slaughtered fowls.
It is common in this area to see the locals unwilling to report cases to the police because of how poor the cases are being handled. Sometimes, one is even asked to fuel the police van to go and arrest a suspect of a crime.
