When we all thought that the strike actions by various labour unions has come to an end because the government agreed with them to pay 15% cost of living allowance (COLA) out of the 20% which the labour unions were demanding for, the University’s Senior Staff Association says they are still on strike.
Apparently, COLA is just one of the things they were demanding from the government, there are other several issues that have not been resolved, and will therefore be on strike until the other issues are resolved by government.
“We went on strike because of several issues. COLA was just one of the issues, and it has been given to us, but we have other outstanding issues.”
This information comes on the back of the call off of strike actions by labour unions on July 14, after government decided to pay 15% of their 20% COLA demand.
Isaac Donkor, the national chairman of the Association told Eyewitness News that they will not resume work if these demands are not met.
He categorically stated that “Our Tier 2 pension is still hanging for 10 good years. We also have issues of information on appointments. We have casual workers who have been in employment at the university for six years, so we want the government to regularize their appointment because this is against labour law.”
They are therefore hoping that the government will engage them on the other unresolved matters so they can return to the lecture halls.
