The Members of Parliament indulges in a serious fight among themselves mixed with physical blows last month due to the votes on the controversial infamous Electronic Transactions Levy E Levy.
However, the government of Ghana have recently announced just after the Christmas holidays that, the bill for the 2022 economic and fiscal year will be resubmitted to the Parliament of Ghana despite the serious opposition of the Minority Caucus against the bill remain.
Therefore, the Majority Leader for the incumbent New Patriotic Party NPP who also doubles as the Minister for parliamentary affairs in the country Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, on that note has declared that the E Levy have he technically approved by Parliament.
According to the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the debate that the E Levy is included in the 2022 budget and economic policy for the government of Ghana plus the appropriation of the bill have all been approved by Parliament in the country.
Furthermore, the Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency have also indicated that proceeds expected from the E Levy have all been factored in estimating the appropriation for the year 2022 hence the government of Ghana expect needed revenue to execute its goals and programmes.
“On three levels, we have passed the E-Levy. That is because it formed part of the budget. We approved of the budget and by extension of reason, the E-Levy. Then we came to do allocations to all the sectors fed by receivables from the E-Levy and we approved of them by the entire House, and finally, the Appropriations Act, which is why I am saying that I find it extremely difficult for anybody to say, having done or taken these three steps, I am now tracing my steps back to say that I can’t support it. We will certainly have to find a way about it because it is already in the budget that we have approved”, he explained.
The majority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu make this statement in an interview on a private owned Newspaper, Daily Guide.
He further jabbed that, the Minority members despite their oppositional stance on the E Levy l, have sat through legislative procedures and works that resulted in the passage of the two laws that contained the E Levy.
