After Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia said in his speech regarding the country’s economy that he would prefer the Ghana National Identity Card (Ghana Card) over infrastructure, the aches in the hearts of Ghanaians did not go away. He compared the two and said that he would prefer the Ghana Card to the 1000 Interchange.

Many Ghanaians were surprised by his message. Social media was swamped with criticism of Bawumia’s remarks in the form of comments and images. Several renowned journalists, including Captain Smart, Johnnie Hughes, Katakyie, Asiedu Nketia, Kwesi Pratt, and others spoke about what Bawumia said. The majority of voices expressed disappointment with Bawumia’s use of language in his speech on the economy.

Sammy Gyamfi, National Communication Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), reiterated his disappointment in Bawumia and the NPP in a phone interview with UTV. Many Ghanaians expected him to explain how they would manage the country’s economy and get it on the correct track, but he didn’t anticipate Bawumia to appreciate the Ghana Card more than the life of the people in the country which is the most important thing.

Bawumia should bow down his head in shame because they have nothing better to offer the nation. All they know is pushing blame. NDC left the economy in good expecting them to continue but they have destroyed all that we suffered for. It is time Ghanaians rose up and show NPP the red flag. The economy is messed up and we have to fix it. Ghanaians should remember NDC is the only party that has done it before and if they mean to do it again there is no doubt.
