A former Member of Parliament (MP) for Obuasi East, under the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Edward Ennin has alleged that some appointees of President Akufo-Addo are involved in illegal mining in the country.

He mentions Minister, District and Municipal Chief Executives as well as some Staffers at the Jubilee House, Ghana’s seat of Government, as the ones involved in the illegality, which is causing havoc to the country’s forest and natural reserves.

Speaking on Accra-based Okay FM, Mr Ennin says he is surprised President Akufo-Addo has refused to take action against those people.

“People in the Jubilee house are involved, your Minister are involved and no one is being sacked, nobody is being punished?

“I will be truthful and most Ghanaians will agree with me that about 99.9% DCEs and MCEs at places where there is gold are involved in galamsey.

“If they think I’m lying they should go to Obuasi and see every site where work is ongoing and they will realize that they do not have the license but galamsey is ongoing.

“When the police arrest them you’ll see calls from the DCEs. I’ve videos and I’ve given it to those in charge but they are doing nothing about it”, he said.
