The Female ward and Maternity ward of the Axim government hospital has allegedly shut down for almost a month due to the decision to shoot some scene of a Hollywood movie at the hospital.

On that note, residents and individuals who are affected by the closure of the two facilities have asked the hospital administration to if possible terminate the agreement between the hospital and the Hollywood officials to reopen the two
facilities to offer good services to patients and sick persons.

Therefore, a group naming itself the ‘Axim Youth Alliance’ has as matter of fact petitioned the government of Ghana through the District Assembly over the matter.

However, Solomon Eshun who is the leader of the group speaking to Joynews reveals that the Hollywood movie crew have not commenced shooting their movie scene yet and as such it is, however, imprudent to lock up the facilities for some months while the patients bear the brunt.

“They closed the Female Ward and Maternity Block in August 2021. We were told the closure was for the production of a movie but since then, the contract has ended, and yet the production of the movie has not even started. Both males and females are sharing the same ward, which is causing congestion. So we plead with the authorities to open it immediately,” he explained.

Furthermore, Solomon Eshun recounts how pregnant women have been severely affected by the decision of the hospital.
He further cited that some pregnant women who were in labour due for deliveries came to the hospital and have to sit on plastic chairs to wait for their turn to be delivered just because of the situation.

However, the leader of the  ‘Axim Youth Alliance’ could comprehend why pregnant women who are in labour and have severe pain will be subjected to such a treatment commonly for movie scene acting.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive for Nzema East, Dorcas Armoah happens to receive the petition from the group assures them that the Assembly will do everything possible to address the situation.
