In the spirit of discovering the salary of Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communication at the Office of the Presidency, Oliver Barker has done some serious research which dates back into the administration of the Late President, John Evans Atta Mills and Former President John Dramani Mahama. The aim of this research and revelation is to further make his argument that Article 71 office holders must be scrapped, cogent.
He explained that this discovery will help Ghanaians appreciate how these two political parties have taken for themselves, a vast majority of the public purse and how simultaneously, Ghanaians gradually wade into abject poverty.
One of the deep facts was that, as at 2010, when The Late John Evans Atta Mills was President, the average salary of Article 71 office holders was GHc 8343. That meant that there were some extremities but majority of them were taking something like that. The shocking aspect of this all was that, the average salary of this so called Article 71 office holders was 14 times as much as workers who were on the single spine salary structure (GHc 548.96).
The second deep fact was that, as at 2016, when John Dramani Mahama was President, the salary of this same Article 71 office holders, had more than doubled. It more than doubled from GHc 8343 to GHc 18,221.76. This massive salary doubling juxtaposed to the salary increase of public sector workers on the Single spine salary structure is an eyesore.
We can now imagine, how exponentially the average salary structure of the Article 71 office holders has grown into currently. Even with the so called salary reduction by 30 percent, nothing changes. When calculating their salary, they probably factor in inflation rate and surprising same is not done for the ordinary Ghanaians. One cannot help but wonder if such situations will ever change in the near future.
