Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Member of Parliament for Ketu South Constituency has descended on the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo Addo by saying that, there is nothing that shows that keeping the land borders of Ghana closed is based on science as said by the President.
According to Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the decision by President Nana Akufo with regards to the closed land borders is born out of political sentiment.
However, the Member of Parliament for Ketu South Constituency, Abla Dzifa Gomashie speaking in an interview on TV3 midday Thursday live on the 16ht of December 2021 indicated that she is in disagreement with the decision to keep the borders still closed in the country since March 2020.
On the 15th of December 2021, Wednesday during the 27th nation address by the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo Addo, he disclosed that it will not be right to open the land borders in the country as it is wrong timing.
According to Nana Akufo Addo, the potential wave of the coronavirus is very disastrous hence the government cannot risk the lives of the citizens by opening the borders.
“To my fellow Ghanaians living along the borders of our nation, I know of the difficulties occasioned by the closure of our borders,” the president said. As you know, the decision to close our borders, which are a source of livelihoods for many, was necessary because we wanted to limit the importation of the virus into the country. We are monitoring the level of threat of the disease and ongoing vaccinations in our neighbouring countries, and, as soon as we are satisfied that it is safe to do so, the borders will be open”, he explained.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for the opposition National Democratic Congress NDC in reaction to the decision of the President expressed her disappointment to the situation adding that the land borders of the country have been closed for a very long time.
Furthermore, she added that “I am very disappointed in His Excellency’s statement last night.”
Abla Dzifa Gomashie again said that the president is rather defying the orders of the Economic Community of West Africa ECOWAS of which he is the chairman of the Union.
On that note, Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie believes that Nana Akufo Addo decision is birthed out of with political sentiments
