On Monday,25th July 2022, the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta read the mid-year budget review statement at the Parliament House. He has also announced that all new roads are to be tolled.
Readers can recall that the same finance Minister closed down all toll booths during the last budget reading. In fact, Many Ghanaians were not excited when the toll booths were closed down and they raised concerns about alternative revenue streams but the government assured that the E-levy would bring in some cash flows only for the economic situation to exacerbate even further.
The Mid-year budget review statement read by the Finance Minister has created a public debate as many Ghanaians have raised concerns about the new announcement concerning the toll booths. Ken Ofori has assured that newly constructed roads would raise revenues by setting up toll booths on such roads.
Some Ghanaians have asked the Finance Minister to reinstate all closed toll booths in addition to the ones on the new roads. These Ghanaians believe that government will raise adequate revenues by increasing the toll booths.
