The Ghana Education Service (GES), in collaboration with the government of Ghana, pays Professional Development Allowance (PDA) to it’s workers.The amount paid to teachers as a professional development allowance is GHS 1,200 for teaching staff and GHS 800 for non-teaching staff.

Teaching staff, according to the amount paid annually, receives GHS 100 every month as PDA. Therefore, the amount paid as an allowance to teachers annually remains the same.

After budgeting for the aforementioned allowances, the Ghanaian government through the Ministry of Finance (MOF) 2020 instructed the Controller and Accountant General Department (CAGD) to make the first payment.

However, it seems to have become a yearly tradition that beneficiaries of professional allowances do not get paid in full because teachers will always receive TLM, with the associated costs being subtracted.

According to all indications, this year’s Professional Development Allowance will undoubtedly include a deduction for a product or TLM that the various teachers’ unions and GES have purchased for the teachers. What will that thing be?

What Deductions will be made from the 2022 PDA

Unconfirmed reports gathered indicate that teachers will be charged for a modem (HUAWEI 4G Wingle). The cost of the modem is not known though but is estimated to cost between an amount of GHS300 – GHS450.
