However, less results has been seen and this is because the people to implement Nana Addo’s orders themselves are involved in it. A recent letter circulating online fingers the Lands and Natural Resources as a key culprit.
The Minority in Parliament alleged that the Lands Minister had been giving some companies the go ahead to prospect for Minerals in our forest. The Chief Executive Office of the Minerals Commission, Martin K. Ayisi came to the rescue of the Land Minister as he totally debunked the allegations and denied that Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, has not granted prospecting licences to some companies to prospect for minerals in Forest Reserves.
The Minority caucus have managed to fish in a letter and this has exposed the Minister and the CEO of the Minerals Commission. They discovered a letter that was received on the 20th of May,2022 from the Forestry Commision acknowledging the payment of Forest Entry Permit fee of Four Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis.
The Forest commission by same letter equally acknowledged some documents attached by Koantwi Company Limited which included; a mining lease from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, an Environmental Permit from EPA and an Operating Permit from Minerals Commission.
Reacting to this, a member of the Lands and Forest Committee on Parliament, Mohammed Adas Sukparu, asked this simple question;
“When did the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources grant Koantwi Company Limited the mining lease? ”
“At the point where our forest reserves are being depleted it appears that while our Minister is publicly suspending mining licenses, he is secretly granting same to his “favorites”. “, he added.
