The founder and leader of the United Progressive Party, Akwasi Addai, who is popularly known as Odike has apologized and retracted his recent allegations leveled against Nana Asante Bediatuo.
Speaking on Neat FM this morning, Odike made it clear that he got his allegations from some television stations in Ghana. He also added that the people of Bosomefreho were accusing Nana Asante Bediatuo of practicing galamsey in the town. Due to this, he also spoke about this issue which has now landed him in trouble.
“I was watching TV3 news and people were accusing Nana Asante Bedietuo that he has sent people to mine in the area. What I said was that people were saying he is doing galamsey so he should come out and speak about it. I have never seen that Nana Bedietuo is doing galamsey. So when they townfolk were alleging, I was also using such allegation to make my point”
He added that he retract his statement because he does not have any evidence about such allegations.
If my brother didn’t accept what I said about him, then I withdraw my statement. I don’t have any problem if I retract my statement because I have not seen him doing galamsey”

This comes after Odike made it clear on one radio interview that Nana Bediatuo of Flagstaff house has brought people to Bosemefreho to engage in galamsey activities. He therefore charged the youth to rise up and demonstrate against chiefs if the traditional rulers fail to come clear on their roles in or stance against illegal mining.
Lawyers of Nana Bediatuo and the Kumasi Traditional council revealed that Odike failed to verify his sources before making this statement. This means that he has reduced the reputation of their client(Nana Bediatuo). The case is said to be sent to the court if Odike does not apologize.
