Host of TV3 New Day show, Johnnie Hughes has sent a bold message to President Akufo Addo for extending the contract of a retired GES deputy director in charge of management services.
Speaking on Johnnie’s Bite show this morning, Johnnies Hughes revealed that the Ghana Statistical Service has revealed that there are a lot of youths in the country. Their data also show that unemployment rate in the country is very high. Johnnie Hughes’ main concern is why the president will extend the contract of someone who has already attained his retirement age.
Johnnie Hughes made it clear to the president that people are looking for jobs to do, yet he(Akufo Addo) is giving opportunities to persons who have retired. When this happens, the chances of the youths to get employed get blocked.
He sent a bold message to the president to do the needful by involving the youths in his decisions because the country is turning into an ‘Old people’s brigade’. This, according to Johnnie Hughes is creating opportunities for workers to extend their retirement age. He believes that it is the main cause of unemployment in the country.
“I am quite disturbed because the last census that we had says that we have a lot of young people in this country. And we are seeing the rate of unemployment go up in the country. I agree that government cannot employ everybody. But government can do some.‘
“The minister of education may have gone past his 60th age and then I saw a letter of the minister of education requesting for extension of service for another person who has gone past 60 years. When I say we are creating an old people’s brigade, you said no. When I said the whole country has become a crime scene, they said no.”
“Somebody that has gone past 60 years is part of the group that is telling young people that we can’t find jobs so we have to let you be entrepreneurs is writing to request for an extension of a contract which has already been granted two times already to be extended by another year” he said
