Greater Accra Regional Minister and MP for Ayawaso Central Constituency, Mr Henry Quartey has rendered an unqualified apology to the NPP hierarchy and the rank and file for making statements that seem to have suggested that he( Mr. Quartey) together with all the MMDCEs in the Greater Accra Region have openly declared their support for the Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the next presidential candidate to lead NPP into the 2024 polls.
During the 59th birthday celebration of Dr Bawumia on Friday 7th October, 2022 at his residence, Mr Quartey joined the Vice President and other well-wishers to celebrate him for attaining another year.
However, following Mr. Quartey’s declaration statements for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia which goes against the party’s constitution.
Mr. Quartey has issued a press release rendering an unqualified apology to the party.

UNQUALIFIED APOLOGY FOR THE SEEMING DECLARATION
“Yesterday, as has been a tradition in recent years, the Vice President celebrated his birthday with the leproserium and I joined with some MMDCEs and other well-wishers.
In the apogy of the celebration during the merry making I made some statements which appeared tantamount to a for a prospective candidate.
I therefore by this release render an unqualified apology to the party hierarchy and all well meaning citizens at large for those statements made.
With remorse, I wish to humbly reassure the party hierarchy and our rank and file that this phenomenon will not reoccur, as has been earlier cautioned by the party leadership to endanger a healthy contest of equal opportunity and devoid of acrimony and rancor, to strengthen the front of the party”, the release reads.

Similarly, other leading members of the party such as Chairman Wontumi, and Hopeson Adorye among others have openly endorsed prospective aspirants which attracted condemnations and caution from the party leadership.
The NPP Party’s constitution does not permit any party member to endorse any candidate or what so ever as the party has officially not opened nominations for the presidential primaries.
