On Wednesday Parliament approved a $750 million loan for the country. This is the first tranche of an amount of $1 billion needed by the government. The Minority argued that government has received huge monies that no government in the 4th Republic with nothing to show for. Haruna Iddrisu thus noted that the Minority side cannot support the new loan. The Majority side however had their way and approved the loan.
Well, a breakdown of the $750 million has finally popped up and receiving raving reactions from Ghanaians. Monies in the breakdown will go mainly to roads and interchanges. This is surprising according to many of the reactions because the Vice President last week made a controversial statement of preferring the Ghana card to 1000 interchanges, though the Ghana card is expected to play a big role in future, to compare with interchanges was a bit too harsh to many.
The loan will see to the completion of the Ofankor-Nsawam road, Ejisu-Konongo road, Suame Interchange, Sofoline Interchange, infrastructure for All African Games etc. It is interesting that some felt Ghana didn’t need new loans when the Ghana card was available. Much more fascinating were comments relating to why some government communicators had said the loan will pay salaries and yet there is no mention of salary payments. Check out the comments.
