Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the minister for education has been getting a lot of accusations from the media especially over the grants that he received from the World Bank. World Bank funds are seen as instant ‘greens’ to be devoured by most politicians.

And this is why most Ghanaians and the media keeps a close check on funds or grants from the world bank. The whopping 1.2 million dollars grant from the world bank to the education sector has sparked massive controversy.

Honorable Yaw Adutwum has been accused of submitting paper works to the world bank claiming teachers had not been paid among other allegations. This according to the UTV television today is part of the reasons why the funds were granted to the education ministry.

The minister stopped the ongoing discussion and attempted to redeem himself from the public mockery and image-denting discussion but was met with even more serious questions.

What people are most confused about is how he claims the grant was meant to serve a different purpose from what the world bank has published on their official website.

According to the world bank, the whopping 1.2 million grant was purported to give access to materials to train teachers and this was the major intentions behind the grant.

According to the education minister, this is not true. Who are we to believe now? The education minister or the world bank who have granted this huge sum of money to the country?

The education minister claims this was meant to serve the interest of the students in the country. He claims the grant was given to them after an official proposal from the education ministry to the world bank soliciting for help to improve the learning and studies of the students in this country.

This grant is however going to be used to build schools and many other education related projects which will benefit the entire country. The news anchor seized him at a point and questioned him with a very challenging question where he was asked about why that publication is on the official website of the world bank when he says otherwise.
