The Minority in Parliament have declared their support for Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah as he launches bid to contest Samuel Ofosu Ampofo for the NDC chairmanship slot.

The NDC MPs believe winning power in the 2024 elections is possible with the Chief Scribe of the NDC who has proven over time that he is capable of standing to the intimidation of the NPP during elections.

Speaking at the launch of the national campaign for Asiedu Nketiah on Tuesday,  October 25, 2022 at the Karma Conference Centre in Accra, Deputy Minority Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim, who was speaking on behalf of the Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu, stated that the current General Secretary of the party was the best choice to fearlessly lead the party to power.

He said the Minority Leader and some of the MPs were not able to attend the campaign launch because they were engaged at an equally important programme organised by the IEA on constitutional amendment processes.

“We give you our unflinching support,” Mr. Ibrahim said and went on to assure Asiedu Nketiah that “We are not just supporting you.. we will do the work with you.”

The Banda legislator further explained that prior to the 2020 elections, General Asiedu Nketiah set a campaign team and visited regions where NDC had lost most Parliamentary seats in 2016 with the aim of helping the party to retrieve them.

He said General Asiedu Nketiah whom he described as his Godfather spent weeks in Bono and Central Regions just to ensure that the party won the seats it lost, adding that he and his team could shuffle between three regions in a day.

The result of such trips, he noted resulted in increasing the NDC’s seats in the Central Region and Bono where the party won the Wenchi and Jaman South Constituencies for the first time as well as reclaiming the Jaman North and Dormaa West seats.

“The man General Mosquito’s courage is incomparable. He’s also there for the party. That’s the chairman you need,” he told the charged crowd.

Ahmed Ibrahim further questioned the moral right of NDC Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo to seek re-election.

He said contrary to reports that Ofosu Ampofo played a critical role in the election of Alban Bagbin as Speaker of Parliament in January 2021.

“Where was he [Ofosu Ampofo] when we were in Parliament to elect a Speaker? He was asleep,” the MP stated and announced that Asiedu Nketiah has the “unflinching support” from the Minority.

“On 6th January 2021, when things were tough while electing a Speaker, our Chairman wasn’t there and we were hurt but when we saw General, we were happy,” he recounted.
