For months there has been so much brouhaha over Hon. Adwoa Safo, MP for Dome Kwabenya. The lawyer has been in the United States for some time raising questions about whether she still deserves her constituency seat. The Majority side feeling displeased about her reluctance to join them especially on critical voting times have tried to remove her from her seat. The President later sacked Adwoa Safo and placed the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources as caretaker Minister.

Many names came up for nomination for the vacant post. Well, in a release from the Jubilee House, the President has nominated a new minister to take charge of the ministry which has witnessed a number of scandals. Hon. Lariba Zuweira Abudu has been nominated by the president to be the new Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister. She currently is the Minister of Walewale.

Interestingly, Francisca Oteng Mensah’s name has come up as the Deputy Minister Designate for the job. Francisca is considered the youngest MP with his constituency the biggest winning constituency for the ruling New Patriotic party. The two minister are expected to go before Parliament for vetting. It will be interesting to see what happens when they go for vetting. Francisca Oteng Mensah is the daughter of Kweku Oteng, a business mogul.

Interestingly, many had called on President Akufo-Addo to appoint Berla Mundi to the position. Many have queried why only women get the chance to that ministry despite the ministry being in charge of both boys and girls. There have been calls that if the women are unable to do the job, a man can be appointed. In the absence of Adwoa Safo, the ministry has witnessed so much problems with the school feeding programme. Again some boys were sodomised in Kulpi and still nothing has been done.
