2022 World Cup: GFA Initiates Strong Action Against Referee Ismail Elfath At FIFA Over Ghana Vs Portugal Match -Details Drop
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has petitioned the world football governing body, FIFA, over the atrocious refereeing in Ghana’s 3-2 defeat to Portugal at the 2022 World Cup.
There was no use of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) as American referee Ismail Elfath made more than two questionable decisions that should have been reviewed.
Portugal scored the first goal after the hour mark through a soft penalty after the hour mark on Thursday at Stadium 974.
Ronaldo subsequently converted the penalty for the first goal of the game.
Also, in the 80th minute, Raphael Leao also scored a third goal that was also believed to be offside but it was not reviewed by the VAR.
In stoppage time, Inaki Williams was also obstructed when he attempted to steal the ball from Portugal’s keeper Diogo Costa. Williams slipped as Costa’s palm landed on his foot. It was not also checked.
Ismail Elfath is the reigning MLS Referee of the Year.
