Bank of Ghana Head of Financial Stability, Dr. Joseph France, has urged the general public not to link their Ghana cards to their bank accounts via social media links supplied by friends and acquaintances.

Clients cannot yet remotely link their Ghana cards and bank accounts, according to him.

According to him, this could be the work of criminals who are phishing for your bank account information.

According to certain social media posts we’ve seen, it’s necessary to link a person’s Ghana card to their account in order to use it. I believe it’s necessary to state right now that no bank has made it possible to link your bank account remotely.

“To link your account, you’ll have to go to the bank and complete your facial or biometric scan. Fraudsters can profit from this, therefore you must be extremely vigilant. Your biometrics, including your fingerprints and face scans, are critical to the bank’s ability to provide you a Ghana card, but the bank must also check that the card you get is authentic before issuing you one.

“Therefore, we must not leave any room for fraudsters to enter and take advantage of the system. We have no way of knowing who posted that link,” he stated.

Anyone who receives such a link should first check with their bank to make sure it is authentic, the CEO of the Ghana Association of Bankers, John Awuah, said.

As a precaution, he warned against clicking on links that need you to enter sensitive information, such as your password or PIN.

No bank will ever ask for your password, pin number, or any other sort of credential that allows you to securely log into the system when doing remote verification or update. According to him, “you will not be asked” by any financial institution.
