The 90 day jail term slapped on a renowned social media influencer, Rosemond Brown popularly known as Akwapem Poloo by the Criminal Division of the High Court in Ghana has been reversed by the Appeal Court of the country.
On the 1st of December 2021, the High Court summoned the Sensational media influencer to come back to the Nsawam Security Prison in order to complete her 90 day jail term slapped on her by the Court.
However, this come after the High Court of Ghana presided by Justice Ruby Aryeetey rejected her appeal seeking for a non custodial sentence instead of the custodial sentence.
According to the High Court ruling , the 90 day jail term impose on her by the Circuit Court was not “manifestly excessive” and “harsh” hence that decision cannot be altered.
Additionally, the renowned social media influencer, Akwapem Poloo on 7th December filed a notice of appeal at the Appeal Court of Ghana challenging the High Court of the country for dismissing her appeal.
“Please take note that the convict/appellant/appellant hearin, being aggrieved by the judgement of the High Court Criminal Division (1)Accra, Her Ladyship Ruby Aryeetey dated 1st December 2021 dismissing the appellant appeal against the conviction and sentence to 90 days imprisonment imposed on the appellant on each count to run concurrently by Her Honour Mrs. Christiana Cann dated April 16, 2021, hereby appeals to the court of appeal on the grounds set out below and for the release stated hereunder,“ the notice of appeal indicated.
Therefore, the High Court on the 15th of December 2021 reversed the 90 day hail term sentenced on her, meanwhile, the Court subsequently fined Akwapem Poloo an amount of GH¢12,000 (1000 penalty units).
